Object description :

"Bronze "mare And Her Foal" Signed Pierre Lenordez"
Pierre Lenordez is a Norman sculptor born in Vast, near Cherbourg in 1814, died in St Maur in 1892. He is the uncle of Monseigneur Lenordez, bishop of Dijon. He is held to be one of our finest horse sculptors. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1855 to 1877 and at that time he lived in Caen. He is the author of a book on "The horse, its conformations, its breeding, its use". (Paris 1886) Coming from a very wealthy family, he sculpted only for his pleasure, without commercial purpose, which gives us very accomplished and personal works.
