Antoine GADAN 1854-1934 Exceptional and imposing oil on canvas painting representing a shepherd and his flock in the vicinity of Bône in Algeria in a remarkably worked and sculpted frame. Dimension of the frame: 149 x 102 cm Dimension of the canvas 100 x 55 cm Signature lower right - annotation on the back of the painting "He who wants to have honey must suffer the stings of bees" Antoine Gadan was born in 1854 in Seurre, but his talent was revealed in Algiers where he settled at the age of 27. Orientalist painter, especially landscape painter, his interest is very naturally focused on the study of Algerian landscapes of which he makes delicate and personal interpretations. Her light touch and inventive color palette combine to create a style that is very personal to her. Antoine Gadan took part in the Universal Exhibition of 1900 where he won a vermeil medal. His works can be found today in the Fine Arts museums of Algiers and Constantine Nicknamed the painter of herbs, Antoine Gadan offers us today with Les moissons a beautiful testimony to his talent. This work is a perfect example of the use of solid colors that the artist applies with talent by small touches in order to obtain subtle nuances and an unexpected light effect. The artist depicts a luminous scene in which we can perceive the softness of the air and a joyful atmosphere. It portends the joys of an abundant harvest, brilliantly combining worker enthusiasm and the elegance of the landscape. Sending of a video possible on request.
