Venus Disarming Cupid, Important Porcelain Biscuit Group/sculpture/statue
Artist: D’après Boizot
Venus disarming Cupid Important biscuit group.
The goddess, crowned with flowers and draped in an antique toga, negligently reveals her chest.
She holds in her right hand, placed on a column, the quiver of arrows and the bow that she has just taken from Love.
Her other hand bridles a garland of flowers to clasp and hold the little winged and mischievous being who puts his left index finger to his mouth, as if to keep a secret. The looks and attitudes are most charming.
On the back of the cookie is the hollow inscription: "after Boizot"
Louis-Simon Boizot (1743-1809).
Sculptor to the king Louis XVI and director of the sculpture workshop at the Manufacture de Sèvres. He received the Prix de Rome in sculpture in 1762.
