Rare Virgin and Child in polychrome wood of Romanesque tradition, Fenouillèdes region, representing a Virgo Lactans. Before this discovery, only 3 medieval nursing virgins were known in the Pyrénées Orientales. Our Maria Lactans is distinguished by the quality of its execution, the preservation of its polychromy, a known origin and a rarity on this side of the Pyrenees. Mary is seated on the throne with a gentle and mysterious air. Christ on his knees holds the Book on and raises the index and middle fingers of his right hand.
