Painting, oil on canvas, representing a scene of daily life in a Breton interior. The young Breton spins the wool while her husband watches over their child who is sleeping in the cradle placed between them.
Signed lower right CH DEMORY and dated 1878
Charles Demory born in 1833 in Arras is a painter of history and genre scene. He took painting lessons from his father and then went to study at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Student of Cogniet He participated in the Paris Salon from 1868 to 1884 with paintings of Breton interiors, landscapes and Norman scenes. He died in 1895.
