Rare "qixie" Shoe Noble Manchu Woman Platforms Qing Dynasty
Rare pair of women's "Qixie" shoes with embroidered silk platforms.
Wooden heel covered with cotton canvas, very fine and colorful silk embroidery, very good general condition, very few signs of wear, some beetle holes on the heel.
The reputation of Manchurian women known as being tall and thin undoubtedly comes from the wearing of these high-heeled shoes which allowed them to imitate the gait of the "lotus foot", very popular with many Chinese women in the 19th century.
