Wooden tray with bronze handle and whimsical floral decoration in lacquer representing a lotus flower. Made in the famous French company L'Escalier de Cristal (1804-1923), which worked with many renowned artists living in the 19th century, such as Gabriel Viardot or Emile Gallé. The company became famous from the time of the Restoration (1815-1830) by producing astonishing pieces of furniture in wood, bronze and glass (including the famous dressing table of the Duchess of Berry from 1819, which can be found today now in the Louvre). From 1872, the company had its showroom in Paris, rue Scribe 6, and it was at this time that many decorations in the oriental style, then in vogue, were produced.
