Female Statue, Dogon, Mali
Artist: Dogon
Statuette presenting a female figure seated on a one-legged initiate seat. The hands are placed on the end of the breasts and symbolize a nurturing gesture. The head is slightly turned and the ears in arcs frame a face built around an arrow-shaped nose. The spine is marked by a vertical zigzag line and refers to the exodus of the Dogons. The mixture of a beautiful invoice as well as the marks of the past allows this statue to send back a very beautiful emotion.
The base was slightly sawed off, I think when setting it in the base.
Wood, old erosion and patina of time.
Dogon people, Mali, 19th century or earlier
H: 21.5 cm
