Painter of rustic interiors, urban scenes, still lifes, and seascapes; draftsman. Student of his uncle V. Lagye, C. Montald (Brussels Academy, 1891-1900), and H. Luyten, whom he considered his master. Early work influenced by J. Smits: paintings with social subjects. A late convert to plein air painting, he specialized in the expressive and luminous rendering of picturesque corners of Brussels. Professor of drawing and art history at the Athénée du Centre.
