Clemence TURGAN (1802-1854).
Portrait of a young woman in a white dress and pearl necklace.
Painting on porcelain plate, signed lower right “C(lémen)ce Turgan”.
Probably by Sèvres Royal Manufactory, circa 1840-1850.
In its rectangular gilt bronze frame surmounted by a laurel wreath, with easel foot on the back.
H. 12.3 x W. 9.5 cm. Frame: H. 23.5 x W. 15 cm.

History
Clémence Naigeon-Turgan (1802-1854), known as Madame Turgan, was a pupil of Marie-Victoire Jaquotot (1772-1855), another famous porcelain painter and miniaturist. Daughter of the curator of the Luxembourg Museum, Clémence Turgan worked as a figure painter at the Manufacture de Sèvres between 1830 and 1852. She exhibited at the Salon from 1834 to 1852.
