Japan, Kannon Biraki Tansu, Japanese chest of drawers, circa 1850. Kannon biraki (cabinet with hinged doors) isho tansu (clothes chest) in 2 sections. Made of kiri wood (paulownia), the exterior of the cabinet and the interior drawers covered with black lacquer. The upper section has a pair of hinged doors that open to reveal two large drawers, the lower section has two large drawers and a small door revealing 2 small drawers. The original fittings are made of iron. 106 x 42 x 91 cm Japan, 19th century.
