Polychrome XVII Th C. Stone Statue Of Virgin And Child - Prayer Against The Plague
XVIIth C. POLYCHROME STONE STATUE OF VIRGIN AND CHILD - INVOCATION OF THE VIRGIN MARY IN PROTECTION OF THE PLAGUE
At the foot of the statue text extracted from an office dedicated to the Virgin Mary to invoke her protection against the plague:
"GLORIOSA STELLA MARIS, A PESTE SUCCURE NOBIS ”.
The text formerly partly truncated with“ A PESTE ”transformed by painting into“ & RESTE ”.
Followed by initials "IB" "EV" (donors of the statue?) and the date 1645.
Original polychromy.
As is: old restoration visible at the back with 3 iron rods; recent restorations at the base (obviously recently damaged) with traces of glue.
Condition stable - condition must be taken into account when moved.
68 cm high and 23 cm wide.
