Object description :

"Celestial Table Globe Late-19th Century."
Celestial table globe, It is housed in a frame composed of a first ring representing the horizon of the observer, placed in an octagonal wooden circle, and a second brass ring representing the meridian of the place. The globe is rotated in the meridian ring at the celestial poles and can be tilted so that the height of the pole on the horizon coincides with that measured at the particular place of observation. The wooden support is made up of four turned legs connected to the base by a cross in the center of which is the seat of the southern cerchio; at the top is the equatorial, or equinoctial, cerchio in a horizontal position. The Twelve Celestial Spheres were published in 1792. The Celestial Globe is based on astronomical observations by Flamsteed and Lacaille, and shows all stars known so far, as well as large stars that vary in magnitude. The spindles reproduce the twelve segments of 30 degrees of amplitude which, once cut and glued on a sphere, constitute the entire celestial globe. The parchment located in the center of one of the segments, between Boote and Mount Menalo, reads "GLOBE CELESTIEL Calculated for the current year on the observations of Messrs. Flamsteed, and de la Caille. ROMA presso la Calc.a Cam. the 1792 ". Giovanni Maria Cassini, 1745 - 1824, disciple of Giovanni Battista Piranesi, was an Italian globetrotter, geographer, engraver and cartographer, working in Rome in the decades between the 18th and 19th centuries. It should be noted slight accidents such as embossments and cracks. Dimensions: Height: 53cm, height of the horizon table 32.2cm. Diameter 34cm. Width at horizon table 41.4cm.
