"Akau Prestige Club From Tonga Islands, 19th Century"
This Tongan club from the 19th century called AKAU is entirely covered with a set of geometric patterns on which stand out inlays of marine ivory. These weapons are more than just powerful tools of war. They are also social markers which indicate the rank of their owner in these very hierarchical societies. The artists who create these works of art have great know-how and a very well-mastered sculpture technique. This club is particularly rare because of these inlays of patterns of suns, diamonds, stars ... and positions it among the great masterpieces of Oceanian art.
