Moustiers faience cut-off plate with polychrome decoration in the center in a medallion of a mythological scene representing Hercules with his club on a landscape background. Marked Olérys and the painter: Pierre Giroud or JF Guiot.
Circa 1745/50. Eighteenth century.
Diameter: 25cm
This weapon is a piece of wood that is narrow at one end to serve as a handle and heavy and flared at the other end to strike. Symbolically, the club represented brute force, the primitive weapon whose use was not codified by the rules.
