Tabriz rug circa 1970 in hand-knotted wool from Iran and measuring 231 cm x 336 cm long.
Small price for a carpet in used condition, family home spirit, slight sunstroke on the medallion and border and fringes in used condition.
This carpet is clean, the wool is soft and thick knotted admirably and tightly revealing shades full of contrasts, a beautiful medallion surrounded by a half of flowers placed on a midnight blue field surrounded by four interlacing spandrels, palm and gazelles on red background and abundantly ornate borders.
The nuances underline this learned floral design in the great tradition of Persian art, inspired by the miniatures of the school of Tabriz, then capital of the Persian empire.
The kork wool is the softest wool, taken under the belly and under the neck of lambs.
Tabriz (Azerbaijani: Təbriz / تبریز, formerly Tauris), is the capital of the province of East Azerbaijan, in northwestern Iran (Iranian Azerbaijan).
It lies on the course of the Talkheh River (also called Aji-Chāi), near Lake Urmia, close to the borders of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia. Tabriz is the gateway to Persia from north to west, Tabriz rugs are of utmost importance in the quality of Persian rugs and a wonderful international fame.
The Tabriz are among the most popular carpets in the world, their work is always very fine and durable over time.
This rug has been professionally cleaned and environmentally friendly.
