Very Important XIXth Table Fountain
Description:
Silvered bronze, Turquin marble, cut crystal.
This astonishing Louis XIV style evening accessory is made up of three legs with scrolls and heads of rams and foliage. These feet carry a bowl decorated with ribbons and a frieze of foliage, a cut crystal cup with scalloped edges. Through a system of pipes in one foot, the liquid (wine, punch, etc.) came out of three nozzles in the crystal cup; all you had to do was hold out your glass under the jet falling from a nozzle. The low cut served as a cooler or punch bowl. The work of bronze different from that of silver metal gives a more architectural aspect to this fountain.
