This cabinet, original in its composition and its destination, was offered at birth to contain the trousseau of the newborn. The 4 large drawers were used for layette and clothes, the door reveals a layout of shelves and small drawers intended to receive the timpani, rattles and toys. A piece of furniture in the Rhine tradition, it can be found in the bourgeois interiors of Switzerland and southern Alsace. Decor inlaid with contrasting walnut curls and interlacing surrounded by light wood threads. Very beautiful tinned hinges and engraved iron pull buttons, clip lock. Built in conifer, engraved sides, dressing of the top restored in the 19th century, loaf feet and posterior keys. Lacks a small interior drawer. Period early eighteenth.
