Quelvee takes lessons from Maurice Denis who transmits to him the predilection for compositions of vast dimensions, with supple rhythms and nuanced colors, illuminated by acid chromatisms. Like the Nabis he loves masses of color painted "en aplat" and stylized forms.
Eclectic exponent of the Ecole de Paris in Montmartre, he travels to France, Italy, North Africa painting biblical scenes (David dansant devant l 'arche, Rébecca); nudes (Harem Tunisien, in which he takes up the main model of the harem to introduce the Queen of Sheba from one of his biblical compositions), landscapes (Jardin du Hamma, Jardin d'accalimation à Alger, Nuit sur la Salute à Venise), scenes mythological (Eurydice retrouve la lyre d'Orphée) and above all sumptuous bouquets of flowers, arranged in wise disorder. He regularly exhibits at the Salon d 'Automne, the Salon des Tuileries and abroad. Many Parisian galleries represent him: Druet from 1920, Bernheim-Jeune from 1923, De Frenne in 1928. His paintings are bought for some French museums: Luxembourg, Grenoble, Evreux, Le Havre and in Morocco (Rabat). He was appointed professor at the Atelier Ranson and in 1928 at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière.
He is also successful as an engraver; he illustrates numerous literary works, including: Fête foraines by Gabriel Mourey; Le Lys rouge by Anatole France; Alphonse Daudet's Evangéliste; Une Idylle, dans le Xe by G. Reuillard.

The painting is in good condition.
