View of Venice signed lower left F. NARDI Oil on canvas measuring 34cm x 55cm plus quality frame 55cm x 78cm François Nardi, born in Nice on December 7, 1861, and died in Toulon in 1936, is an original French painter Italian and one of the masters of Provençal painting. François Nardi was a young self-taught painter from Toulon when he was noticed by Frédéric Montenard who gave him advice and encouraged him to go to Paris. After a stint at the Académie Julian (1887-1889) and the exhibition of his works at the Salon of French artists, he quickly experienced success that transcended borders with his landscapes of the Mediterranean and Provence. At the outset, he had similarities with Claude Monet, his contemporary, but did not seem to suffer much from the pictorial movements of his time. He nevertheless remains in a line close to the Impressionists. At the height of his art, setbacks of fortune distanced him from Paris and the art world and prevented him from continuing the brilliant career he had led until then. Withdrawn to Toulon in 1909, he never stopped painting until his death. His work includes more than 3,500 references, between paintings, oils on wood, watercolors and drawings.François Nardi, born in Nice on December 7, 1861, and died in Toulon in 1936, is a French painter of Italian origin and one of the masters Provençal painting.
