Norwegian painter born in 1847 and died in Edam/Volendam, Netherlands in 1906, impressionist, engraver. He is considered one of the pioneers of Norwegian naturalist painting. He trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. He stayed in France and Germany. He became known to the bourgeois public for his paintings of fishermen in boats and maritime shores. These maritime canvases achieved great success during the Belle Époque, influenced by naturalism and the Barbizon school. Oil on wood, signed lower right, dated 1873.
