Superb painting by the American impressionist painter FRANK BOGGS, representing the Pont Neuf and the Quai du Louvre from the Quai des Grands Augustins.

Note the remarkable construction work at sky level, with white touches rich in paste in its central part that breaks the imposing grayish plume of threatening clouds.

Born in 1855 in Springfield (Ohio, USA), he grew up in New York then went to France in 1876 and studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris under the direction of Jean-Léon GÉRÔME who would have him orient towards landscape painting.
Between 1877 and 1881, he traveled through Normandy and painted Dieppe and Honfleur regularly.
He exhibited for the first time at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1880, he exhibited there regularly throughout his life.
Mainly attracted by seascapes, he likes to paint Paris, the Seine and its monuments.
He will also stay in Belgium and Holland.
He was naturalized French in 1923 and was awarded the Legion of Honor posthumously.

In 1884, Theodore CHILD described BOGGS as "one of the most talented and promising young American painters in Paris".

His works are present in important museums around the world: Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Houston ... Carnavalet Museum, Louvre Museum ...
