Rare coffret de cachets à devises, début du XIXe siècle
This rare early 19th century currency box, circa 1816, is in red morocco; it contains fifty small engraved brass currency stamps, each stamp being adorned with a currency and a motif illustrating it.
The representation of each numbered stamp with its motto and its illustration appears on the cover of the box.
The following inscription appears after these illustrations:
"50 currencies stamp"
"3rd Collection"
"By patent for invention, improvement and addition"
"Paris, at BRASSEUX AINÉ, engraver of the King and of HRH the Duke of Nemours" "Palais Royal, n ° 33, Galerie Richelieu"
The Brasseux Ainé house at the Palais-Royal was extremely renowned for the quality of its cachets, whether they were executed on stone or on metal.
