A Rare Sèvres Biscuit Bust, Portrait Of Princess Louise d'Artois

Bust of Louise d'Artois, Princess of France (1819-1864), 22 months old.
Hard-paste porcelain biscuit, resting on a biscuit pedestal.

Manufacturing marks on the back: Brachard elder f (eci) t / 15 oct (obre) (18) 22 n ° 2 / Mas.
Good condition.

Provenance
Executed in pair with the bust of his brother Henri d'Artois, Duke of Bordeaux, these princely effigies were executed at Sèvres by Brachard elder after the marbles of Ruxthiel exhibited at the Salon of 1822 (under n° 1791 and 1792) , following the birth of the "Child of the Miracle", on September 29, 1820.
Among the many copies of the children of the Duke and Duchess of Berry executed at the Sèvres factory, we find traces of 2 busts delivered to king Louis XVIII, probably the first two to come out of the workshops: "Delivered by order of the King following the Exhibition / To the King / 2 busts of Mgr. Le Duc de Bordeaux and Mademoiselle à pied bleu - 60x "(the busts with blue foot were sold for 30 francs while those with white foot 25 francs), delivery confirmed by letter from the minister in date of January 9, 1822 (Arch. Sèvres, Vbb6, 8 v°).

- A watercolor from 1822 by Jean-François Garneray (1755-1837) depicting the bedroom of the Duchess of Berry in the Pavillon de Marsan shows us that a biscuit bust on a white pedestal, probably representing Louise or her brother Henri, stood on the fireplace on the left (ill. 3).
