Portrait of a young woman with a silk ribbon trimmed with flowers, circa 1790. She wears a silk dress in gray camaiëux and earrings in harmony with her headdress. The oval-shaped canvas fits into a gilded wood frame carved with heart stripes. Our portrait is attributed to AdélaÏde Labille-Guiard, born in 1749 in Paris and died in 1803. The last daughter of a Bougeoise family of eight children, her father is a haberdasher and owner of a fashion boutique located rue de la Ferronnerie, c It is in this shop that Madame Du Barry started. She was a painter at the Academy of Saint-Luc thanks to her teacher François Elie Vincent, renowned miniaturist. In 1787 she exhibited at the salon the portraits of the three princesses, Elisabeth, Adelaide and Victoire. Adelaide painted in 1791 the portraits of deputies to the National Assembly, including that of Talleyrrand. She continued to exhibit at salons from 1798 to 1803.
