Oil on canvas Old 17th century frame
Pieter Casteels the Younger is a Flemish painter who lived in the city of Antwerp at the end of the 17th century. He is registered in the Guild of Saint Luke between 1773-74 as an Antwerp Master. He is a painter specializing in imaginary port scenes where a number of characters animate the composition. We find in his work recurring elements such as the towers which allow us easily to recognize the artist. Paintings by Casteels can be found in the Louvre, at the Besançon and Quimper museums as well as at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires.
