Magnificent portrait of a very young master seated on a silky velvet cushion of beautiful richness, his little dog standing leaning against him with affectionate eyes. Scene of great charm from the early 18th century. Portrait, which can be dated without error around 1720, ** from the studio or the immediate entourage of Jean Ranc portrait painter with brilliant work throughout his destiny (1674 Montpellier-1735 Madrid).

Jean is the son of Antoine Ranc, Antoine whose immense work in Languedoc in Montpellier was a great school which inspired talent in addition to Jean himself, the great H. Rigaud, and the no less important J. Raoux among others also known and renowned.
Jean Ranc, nicknamed "the painter of kings", worked from 1696 in Versailles alongside H. Rigaud with whom he worked for Louis XIV and high figures of the court as well as in Paris for important representatives of the bourgeoisie. Jean Ranc left Versailles in 1722 for the court of Madrid, on the recommendation of H. Rigaud, to go to Philippe V king of Spain grandson of Louis XIV who wanted a talented portrait painter of the level of French painters, then for the court of Portugal in 1729-1730 and returned to Madrid. He died there in 1735.
