Large Sculptue By Riccardo Scarpa
Large and beautiful original plaster sculpture by the hand of Riccardo Scarpa, signed under the foot. Riccardo SCARPA (1905-1999) Born in Venice in 1905, Riccardo Scarpa studied drawing at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts where he was a pupil of De Loto and Carlo Lorenzetti. In 1928, Scarpa moved to Paris where he devoted himself to sculpture. Made in plaster, bronze, terracotta or even in direct carving on marble, her first works are mainly Africanist (Ethiopian woman with vase, African woman with jug, Egypt). From the 1940s its production turned towards animal sculpture. Riccardo Scarpa executes several pieces of zoomorphic furniture mainly in bronze (lamp bases and carved lampposts). He also makes many portraits of women. In 1974, the Society of French Artists awarded him the gold medal for the set of works he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français. Riccardo Scarpa is also recognized for his work as a medalist with the Monnaie de Paris.
