"La Pietà" Roman school from the 1500s by Michelangelo Buonarroti. Second half of the 16th century Oil on the table Table measures 45 x 37 frame 70 x 60 Excellent conditions This exquisite "Pietà" painted by a Roman artist in the circle of Michelangelo is inspired by the famous drawing that the Grand Master interpreted for her friend Victoria Colonna in the mid-16th century, now on display in the Boston Museum. The pictorial characteristics, of extreme elegance but also of great expressive power, are accompanied by an extraordinarily rich and lively range of colors. It is evident that the author of the painting is strongly influenced by the works of Buonarroti and his frescoes working in his contact. The colors of the table have remained exceptionally vibrant thanks to the use of excellent quality pigments used exclusively in high-end boutiques. This allows us to admire the work in all its beauty. In particular, they affect the faces of the protagonists which highlight some really unusual and very interesting characters and with careful study could lead to the name of the author.
