""Une scène galante durant le carnaval de Venise", G.Guffens? 1878"
Very beautiful genre scene taking place during the Venice Carnival of 1878 (located and dated lower left). The signature is difficult to decipher, because it is doubled, and will undoubtedly appear more clearly on cleaning. The man, dressed in Renaissance style, holds in his left hand a sweet note which was undoubtedly intended for him by the elegant young woman dressed in the style of the 18C. The two characters are surprised in an attitude that leaves no doubt to the woman who surprises them, and who does not seem to enjoy the scene, on the right.
