19th Century Dutch Style Frame
This type of frame was made in small numbers around 1880. It was probably the prerogative of a small Parisian workshop frequented by artists and collectors, because they are found in very small numbers. The quality and refinement brought to the cabinetmaking work intended them to remain "natural" by bringing out the different species used. For this one, oak and rosewood were chosen. The guilloche rods were made in rosewood to contrast with the blond Hungarian oak; the colors of the table must have guided this choice. A nice frame that we want to hang without the subject, for the simple pleasure of admiring it.
