A Louis XVI Barometer Thermometer Circa 1776-1780

Vertical barometer-thermometer with neoclassical dial from the Louis XVI period, last decade of the 18th century, in carved gilded lime wood. Elegant work of sculptures in successful symmetrical neoclassicism such as a woven straw basket overflowing with a bouquet of daisy flowers erected on a bed of foliage framed by an opulent and large wreath of bay leaves. Calibrated thermometer according to René Antoine Ferchault de Réamur (1683 - 1757), which contains personal annotations such as temperature records in Paris in 1740, 1754, 1758 and 1776. Atmospheric pressure barometer graduated according to Toricelli (1608 - 1647). Beautiful oculi centered with metal needles, signed by: Gohin, Optician Engineer Patented rue neuve Saint Eustache n ° 24 in Paris. On the back is a cavity where mercury columns and pulleys and return wire are present. Original gilding in perfect condition, only cleaning has been done to restore it to its former luster. It should be noted that this barometer must have belonged to a doctor or an apothecary, because numerous annotations of a medical nature appear on the thermometer.
