Oil On Panel- Interior Of The Church Of Trier- Johannes Bosboom (1817-1891).
Artist: Johannes Bosboom (1817-1891)
Oil on panel depicting an interior scene of the church in Trêves by the Dutch painter Johannes Bosboom, circa 1870. He initially created theatrical sets and cityscapes in the studio of B. J. Van Hove. He brought back drawings from his travels (to Belgium, France, and Germany). He became famous for his church interiors painted in the Dutch tradition. These include the churches of The Hague, Trêves, and Amsterdam. Bosboom's works are held in numerous international museums (in France, the Musée d'Orsay houses "The Choir of the Grote Kerke"). The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam holds a composition very similar to our work, painted around 1870-1880 in a more Impressionist style. Our painting is signed J. Bosboom in the lower right corner. Panel dimensions: 34 x 24.5 cm
