Pair of bas-relief in the effigy of Saint Laurent of Rome - 17th Century
Set of two bas-reliefs forming a pair in the effigy of Saint Laurent of Rome.
Saint Laurent, patron saint of the poor (Martyr circa 258-259) is depicted in a leafy frame with his attributes: holding in his left hand the grill that served his ordeal and in the right hand the palm of the martyr.
In the Middle Ages, with St. Peter and St. Paul, he was the patron saint of the City of Rome where 34 churches stood in his honour.
Polychrome wood.
A few holes of ancient worm.
The bas-reliefs are fixed on wooden panels brought back in a niche-forming frame (19th century frames). It is possible to separate the bas-relief from its current framework.
Europe, 17th century.
Nice presence.
