"Wladimir De Terlikowski, Besse-en-chandesse Enneige Auvergne, 116 X 173 Oil On Canvas"
WLADIMIR DE TERLIKOWSKI (Powiat de Piotrkow 1873 - Paris 1951) Besse-en-Chandesse snowy Painted in 1911 Oil on canvas 116 x 173 cm Signed and dated lower left "1911 W. de Terlikowski" From the years 1910, the Auvergne begins to be frequented by a growing number of landscape painters from all walks of life. This movement quickly concentrated on the Murols site known as the "Murols School". It was in 1911 that Wladimir de Terlikowski began painting with a knife alongside the painter Victor Charreton in Murols. Terlikowski is one of the three instigators of the Murols School with Victor Charreton and L'abbé Boudal. Passionate about the effects of light on snow, he exhibited in 1913 at the Galerie Berheim-Jeune no less than fourteen views of Murols and Auvergne on the theme "Snow in Auvergne". A veritable manifesto of the Murols School, this monumental work representing the snow-covered village of Besse-en-chandesse shows Terlikowski's passion and virtuosity for rendering light effects on snow. The use of white, pink and purple is representative of the painter's palette at that time.
