Louis XIV Period Golden Frame
This carved and gilded oak frame from the Louis XIV period has a standard format suitable for meeting many common demands. Its decoration says: "à la Bérain" (named after the ornamentalist of Louis XIV) is typical of the moldings of this period with which the drawing frames or engravings (called "baguettes") are also found. The carved projecting parts have been burnished with agate stone and are highlighted thanks to the squared backgrounds of fine grooves engraved in crosses whose design is nicknamed "barley grain". This frame is in perfect condition.
