Important silver drageoir or sugar bowl,with two handles decorated with foliage scrolls, the lid decorated with gadroons, the ring-shaped fretel, resting on a pediment pedimented.

Master goldsmith : François DURAND.
Paris, 1819-1838

Condition report
Very good condition, restored by our master silversmith. Very beautiful and important proportions.



François DURAND, goldsmith of the Duc d'ORLÉANS, was a pupil of ODIOT and workshop manager of FAUCONNIER. He participate to the Exhibitions of the Products of Industry of the early 19th century but also at the Universal Exhibitions in London (Crystal Palace, 1851) and Paris (1855).

François DURAND will make the Coupe du prix 1841 des courses de Goodwood(Louvre Museum, Paris).
It was donated by Ferdinand-Philippe, Duke of ORLÉANS and eldest son ofKing LOUIS-PHILIPPE, an amateur horse magnate and enlightened patron, to the winner of the Goodwood (UK) horse races in 1841. This Renaissance stylecup, will be commissioned by the prince to the sculptor Jean-Baptiste Jules KLAGMANN and realized by DURAND.
It is currently conserved in the Louvre Museum in Paris.
