Pair Of French Wall Lamps In Gilded Bronze With Three Lights, Louis XV Style, 19th Century
Pair of French wall lamps in gilded bronze with three lights, Louis XV style, 19th century
Important pair of wall sconces in gilded bronze with three finely chiselled lights with rich rocaille decoration with foliage motif. Louis XV style, late nineteenth century. Recano initials on the back.
These appliques are stylistically comparable to the pair of appliques of the Châteaux de Versailles et de Trianon and are inspired by the most famous bronze of the Louis XV period, Jacques Caffièri (1678-1755), at the service of the king. Caffièri is the best representative of the rocaille style applied to furniture objects. His bronzes stand out for their boldness, exuberance, and above all for the quality of execution: wide and elastic volutes, vigorous chisels.
