Louis XVI Armchair By Georges Jacob, From Tuileries Palace

A Queen armchair with Louis XVI style frame. It rests on fluted and rudented right feet, at the waist by connecting dice adorned with a rosette. The anterior cross is carved with a wrapped baguette surmounted by a frieze of water leaves. The fluted armrests are set back from the front legs. We find the woven baguette pattern all around the square back and armrests lined with cuffs. It bears the stamp of Georges Jacob and the TH mark on the reverse, as well as an inscription: "137 2". It is also provided with a label, difficult to read: "Boudoir ... Viscountess ... Daumesnil". The fire mark corresponds to the Inventory of Tuileries under Louis XVIII.

Condition report: Resumption of lacquer. Garniture and blanket with yellow silk provided by Tassinari & Chatel (Lyon). Very little legible stamp (hidden under the brand at the Tuileries fire).

Georges Jacob (1739 - 1814) is the most famous French carpenter of the eighteenth century. Received master in 1765, it produces a lot of carpentry works, especially for the royal family. He was solicited by the Garde-Meuble of the Crown for the first time in 1773 and then continues to furnish the apartments of all the members of the latter: the queen, but also the king, the count of Provence, the count of Artois, Madame Elizabeth, etc. It is particularly distinguished by the realization of seats and beds in the Louis XVI style, often innovative in their forms and / or their decor and the quality of its carved ornaments. Although he went through the Revolution without a hitch, he chose to sell his business to his two sons, Georges II and François-Honoré-Georges, in 1796.
