Bouquet of flowers in a vase, oil on wood of the seventeenth century and its Italian period frame with its original gilding (31cm x39cm). Workshop of Peter Binoit, German painter of Dutch origin (Cologne v. 1590-1593 - Hanau 1632). This beautiful still life is a bouquet of flowers composed of many varieties: Roses, tulips, Iris, Lily, bluebells ... It comes from the workshop of Peter Binoit. This artist is a German painter who specialized in painting flowers and still lifes. Protestant convinced, it is probably formatted by Daniel Soreau, whose niece he married in 1627. His oldest known painting is dated 1611. Even before 1627, the painter was to settle in Hanau, but he was also active in Frankfurt, as the Bouquet of Flowers in a Porcelain Vase, dated 1620 (Darmstadt Museum), proves. He specializes mainly in the painting of Vases of flowers, Gerbes very built, in the manner of Beert and Velvet Bruegel, but also in baskets of fruit with birds pecking grapes, or Meals where the objects recall often those of Flegel. These still lifes, rich in detail, seek to render nature with precision with great realism. To make these delicate and fragile objects more alive he does not hesitate to add insects in these compositions. It should be noted that thanks to the invention of the microscope in 1595, at the time of King Henri IV, Zacharias Janssen, a manufacturer of Dutch glasses, had the idea of superimposing two lens glasses (glasses of the time) in sliding tubes, in order to magnify very small things. A new interest is then in a world hardly visible, that of insects. One can observe here, at the bottom of the painting, a large horned beetle and a wood bug.
