Pair Of Candelabra By Ravrio, Louis XVI, Late 18th Century
Artist: André-antoine Ravrio
Pair of candelabra in gilt and patinated bronze decorated with Zephyrs, resting on a marble base "beige Sarrancolin", carrying two torches. End of the Louis XVI period, work of André-Antoine Ravrio.
The Palace of the "Residenz" in Munich commissioned a similar pair (bronze base) to Ravrio in 1805. Another pair was delivered in 1805 for the back office of Prince Murat at the Elysee Palace.
Although the well known models were delivered under the Empire, this pair of candlesticks is clearly in the Louis XVI style. In addition, the non-metric threads confirm that this is work prior to the unification of weights and measures.
Condition report: very good condition, use wear to the gilding, a threaded rod changed, missing the thumb of one of the putti.
