Pair of Empire candelabra in chiseled and gilded bronze. Model consisting of a large torch on which is grafted light arms with 3 lights, the top with a removable flame. Legs with broad palmettes, water leaves arranged around the baluster-shaped stem and gadroons that adorn both the circular feet and the vase-shaped bobeches. Model created in the years 1807-1808, our candelabras are a production dating from the Restoration by Claude Galle or one of these sucesseurs. Claude Galle (1759-1815), bronzier and foundry-chiseleur, received master in 1786 and active rue Vivienne, provides the Garde-Meuble of the Crown under Louis XVI but also and especially, under the Empire. He notably makes deliveries for the castles of Trianons, Fontainebleau, Saint-Cloud, Compiègne and the palace of Tuileries. Our candlesticks use variants of the model of the Château de Fontainebleau, acquired from Claude Galle in 1806-1807 (17 pairs) for the apartments of the Princes and high dignitaries at the Château de Fontainebleau (cf Time, Fire, Light - the bronzes of the national furniture, page 63). and they are identical to a pair of candlesticks bearing the marquess of the Palais de Saint Cloud, which we sold at the end of 2017. (http://www.gslr-antiques.com/boutique/luminaires/bougeoirs-galle-saint-cloud. php) This model is distinguished by its great sobriety and excellent quality of execution. Notament, they are composed of 26 independent pieces (sign of the quality of the model), entirely in gilded bronze with mercury in matt and brilliant (bronze only, no brass parts). Excellent condition, gilding remarkably preserved, without wear. full of all his bows. a threaded rod of internal assembly replaced. Height 51cm Other items available on www.gslr-antiques.com
