Bronze And Polychrome Cloisonné Trays, Attributed To Alphonse Giroux
Napoleon III period, circa 1860–1870
A pair of oval trays in finely chiseled and gilded bronze, enhanced by remarkable polychrome cloisonné enamel decoration. Each tray is adorned with richly colored floral compositions that stand out against a delicately textured gilded background.
The borders feature a refined arabesque ornamentation in shades of turquoise, cobalt blue, and pastel tones. The ensemble is highlighted by an openwork gilded bronze frame, embellished with side handles and decorative motifs inspired by the Rococo style.
With its high-quality craftsmanship, precise bronze work, and rich ornamentation, this pair is reminiscent of the creations of the Alphonse Giroux workshop in Paris, famous during the Second Empire for its objets d’art and decorative pieces that combined precious materials with Oriental and Japonist influences.
Reflecting the 19th-century taste for refined decorative arts, these trays exemplify the eclecticism and luxury characteristic of the Napoleon III period.
