Sideboard In Boulle Marquetry From The Napoleon III Period
This sumptuous piece of furniture from the Napoleon III period, crafted from blackened pear wood in the 19th century, pays homage to the masterpieces of Charles-André Boulle, Louis XIV’s iconic cabinetmaker.
Its curved door immediately catches the eye: entirely inlaid with finely chiseled brass volutes on a sumptuous tortoiseshell background, it offers a contrast of rare intensity and exceptional decorative richness.
The original lock, which is fully functional, is accompanied by superb bronze lock plates, further enhancing the piece’s authenticity and refinement.
The side posts are enhanced by beautiful espagnolette latches and gilded bronze finials, testifying to the masterful craftsmanship of Second Empire artisans. The highly ornate sides are embellished with bronze figures and elegant spandrels, adding depth and character to the piece.
The mahogany interior features two fixed shelves, offering practical storage space without compromising the piece’s luxurious aesthetic.
The Carrara marble top perfectly follows the piece’s sinuous lines, adding an extra touch of elegance and ensuring great durability. Beneath the marble is a label from the Coignerai furniture workshop.
The piece rests on two front legs adorned with feet decorated with acanthus leaves, further evidence of the attention to detail and the quality of the materials used.
A true symbol of the opulence and refined taste of the Napoleon III era, this sideboard is a centerpiece capable of enhancing both a classic interior anda contemporary decor
