Lithograph By Jean-julien Lemordant, *elderly Breton Woman*, 1933, Countersigned
Here is a work by Lemordant, countersigned at the bottom.
Jean-Julien Lemordant (1878–1968) was a French painter and engraver. A painter of Brittany and the sea, he was sometimes referred to as the “Breton Fauvist,” although he worked primarily in Paris. His vibrant color palette is one of his greatest strengths, and he masterfully captures the movements of people and dance, as well as those of the sea, the wind, and the rain. His most significant work remains the large mural commissioned by the mayor of Rennes, Jean Janvier, to decorate the ceiling of the theater, now an opera house.
The work is in good overall condition; please note that the corners are slightly chipped.
