Cast-iron Fireplace Hearth Plate, 19th Century
P273 - This fireplace plate (or cast-iron panel) was historically used both to protect the interior masonry of the hearth from intense heat and to reflect and better diffuse heat throughout the room.
It features a typical triptych structure with a central arch and two geometric side panels.
The relief decorations depict a stylized representation of the sun or a halo of angels surrounded by radiant rays, two human figures, and geometric and floral ornamental motifs featuring corner rosettes and symmetrical friezes.
