Napoleon III-style Burgaute Jewelry Box
A richly decorated box in the Chinese style, featuring birds as well as colorful and gilded flowers; it has mother-of-pearl inlay on the lid and around the edges.
The decoration is made of burgaute (the name of the shell used at that time).
This charming box was made of wood and papier-mâché; its intricately carved shape is quite original, and it rests on four small feet.
It comes with its key.
The interior is lined with pale blue silk, which is stained and worn as shown in the photos; there are also a few areas where the mother-of-pearl is missing from the lid, but the decoration remains harmonious.
It is in good overall condition.
