19th-century Spanish Vargas-style Bargueño Cabinet
Cabinet: 100 x 40 cm - H: 78 cm / Cabinet: 101.5 x 37.5 cm - H: 64 cm
Cabinet + Cabinet: H: 142 cm.
The wooden base, of Spanish origin, dates from the early 20th century and harmonizes perfectly with the cabinet, both in color and quality, despite the difference in age.
Origin: Spain, primarily associated with the Baroque period and inspired by Moorish (Mudejar) art.
Crafted from carved walnut, partially painted, and adorned with bone inlays and openwork wrought iron on the sides.
It features numerous small drawers and central doors richly decorated with geometric and architectural motifs.
Since the bargueño was originally a portable piece of furniture intended for travel, some examples were covered in leather.
A specific Spanish tradition used the famous Cordoba leather (guadamecil) to cover the exterior of the piece.
Traces of this leather are still visible around the metal fittings—see the photographs.
