Lost-wax Bronze By Henri Louis Bouchard, "the Vagabond And His Dog"

 A lost-wax bronze cast depicting an old vagabond wearing a long coat with dramatic folds and a low-brimmed hat, leaning toward a dog in a gesture of camaraderie.

Work signed by Henri Louis Bouchard (1875–1960), a French academic sculptor and Salon award winner. The simple rectangular pedestal bears the artist’s signature, the rectangular SIOT foundry stamp, and the inscription “Cire perdue” (“lost-wax”), attesting to the uniqueness of this cast or its very limited production run. The patina is a nuanced brown, with golden highlights and traces of verdigris in the recesses, attesting to the piece’s age. The surface treatment is expressive and textured, rendered with great realism in the depiction of the drapery. Very slight wear on the patina; no restoration required.
