A singular and daring figure in early 20th-century French painting, Pierre Dumont established himself as one of the most original artists of the Rouen School. Influenced by Van Gogh and Cézanne, he developed a powerful and expressive style of painting, characterized by generous brushwork, vibrant colors, and a remarkable freedom of touch.
Founder of the Groupe des XXX in 1907, and later a key figure in the Société Normande de Peinture Moderne, he played an active role in the artistic avant-garde movements of his time. Based in Paris, notably at the famous Bateau-Lavoir in Montmartre, he rubbed shoulders with the leading figures of modern art and joined the Section d’Or movement in 1912.
His Normandy landscapes, views of Rouen, and Parisian compositions attest to an exceptional artistic temperament, at the crossroads of Fauvism, Expressionism, and Cubist experiments.
Today sought after for the power of his pictorial expression and the originality of his work, Pierre Dumont occupies an important place in the history of modern French painting.
